madonna’s performance last night at yankee stadium was EPIC. she is still in incredible shape and she put on one of the best shows i’ve ever been privileged to witness.
after a superb rendition of her hit “express yourself” which she interlaced with gaga’s “born this way,” madonna boldly declared “SHE’S NOT ME” — several times for emphasis. i guess this settles any speculation about madonna’s feelings on the matter.
another highlight was a taped duet with nicki minaj in which the rapper said “there can only be one queen…and it’s madonna!”
before launching into a ballad version of “like a virgin,” madonna showed the audience a temporary tattoo of “OBAMA” on her back. the audience of 30,000 mostly cheered (although a few boo’s were audible).
while she tended to veer away from her older hits, the audience was treated to classics like “open your heart” and “vogue.” the concert’s defining moment was “like a prayer,” which featured a full gospel choir. imagine a sea of hands and voices singing as one for five minutes of pure pop ecstasy. it was damn near spiritual and most certainly, unforgettable.
